The Houston Texans just dropped their fourth straight game, this time falling to the Dallas Cowboys at home in another frustrating loss.
The offense did its job, putting 30 points on the board and giving Houston the lead late in the fourth quarter. At some point, that has to be enough to win a football game.
The problem this season has not been the offense nearly as much as it has been the defense. In three of their first four games, the Texans’ offense has put the team in a position to close out the game,
and the defense simply has not delivered when it mattered most.
That is extremely concerning considering how much talent Houston has on that side of the ball. This is a unit filled with elite players at several positions, and coming into the season, the defense was expected to be one of the biggest strengths of this team. Instead, they have been majorly underwhelming through the first four weeks.
The most frustrating part is how these games are being lost. Houston has had opportunities late in games to make one stop and walk away with a win, but they have consistently failed to do so. When you are trying to compete with the best teams in the AFC, those are situations where your best players need to step up.
A lot of Houston’s issues this season can also be traced back to the coaching. Whether it is questionable decisions, a lack of adjustments, or simply not getting enough out of an extremely talented roster, something is clearly not working.
At this point, it feels like changes need to be made in an attempt to salvage the season before it is too late. Starting 0-4 does not completely end your season, but the margin for error is now incredibly small, and Houston cannot afford to continue making the same mistakes every single week.
This team is far too talented to be winless through four games, especially considering three of those games were played at home.
There is still plenty of football left to be played, but eventually, talent on paper has to translate to wins. For the Texans, that needs to happen very soon.
