Ahead of Thursday night’s game (Friday local time) against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, the San Francisco 49ers released their injury report, and it’s got some good news.
George Kittle and Nick Bosa are both off the injury report entirely, which bodes well for their Week 1 statuses. The only player out on the injury report is Alfred Collins, who tore his patellar tendon in practice last week and is now expected to miss the season. He could be placed on Injured Reserve this week, with the 49ers
likely making a corresponding move for the game.
Undrafted rookie James Thompson Jr. is the only player questionable for the 49ers with a hamstring injury.
While Wednesday’s practice was a walkthrough for the 49ers, they did list several players as limited: Nick Bosa, George Kittle, Luke Gifford, Renardo Green, Dre Greenlaw, Gracen Halton, Romello Height, Kyle Juszczyk, and James Thompson Jr.
On the Rams side, they’ll only be without Aaron Donald, who was ruled out for Week 1 earlier in the week and did not make the trip to Australia. They only had one limited player on Wednesday, cornerback Jaylen Watson, but he’s a full go for Thursday evening.
While Bosa and Kittle are full go’s, Shanahan acknowledged they’ll look to be smart with both coming off major injuries.
“Yeah, we’ve got to be smart with that,” Shanahan said. “Bosa not practicing as much. Kittle, he’s had this whole week, but they both look great and stuff. But we also definitely have got to be smart with that.”
On Wednesday morning, reporting that Kittle is back and good to go for Week 1, Ian Rapoport did share that he’ll likely be on a pitch count for the game, so that’ll be something to monitor as well.
“George Kittle, who tore his Achilles on January 11th and is attempting an improbable comeback much earlier than he ever should be back, is also off the [injury] report and will play,” Rapoport said. “How much will Kittle play, that remains to be seen. I would expect him to be on a pitch count, but a pretty dramatic return for one of the NFL’s best tight ends. George Kittle is back.”
