The Rockies are still looking for that elusive No. 42 win that will allow the White Sox alone to hold the title of worst in modern history (41-121 in 2024) when they take on the Marlins on Wednesday at Coors Field.
Colorado (41-110) dropped game one on Tuesday night 6-5 when a rally after a rain delay fell just short when Hunter Goodman lined out with the tying run on third base. Miami (71-80) shut out the Rockies and held them to two hits through seven innings before the offense finally showed signs
of life.
Rain is possible in the Wednesday evening forecast as well.
Ryan Weathers (2-1, 2.73 ERA) will make the start for Miami. The 25-year-old lefty will be making his seventh start of the season after spending most of the season on the IL with a left flexor muscle strain and left lat strain. Weathers made his first start in three months on Sept. 11 when he threw five scoreless innings against the Nationals, allowing only five hits while striking out four.
McCade Brown (0-4, 9.88 ERA) will be making his fifth start on Wednesday night. The 25-year-old righty, who was the Rockies third-round pick in 2021, has struggled in his young MLB career. After a brutal start where he didn’t make it out of the second inning after giving up six runs against the Padres on Sept. 6 at Coors Field, Brown bounced back with a better start against the Padres in San Diego on Sept. 11. He surrendered two runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
