Happy Game Week, New York Giants fans!
That’s right, the New York Giants will be playing actual football this weekend. The Giants will host the Minnesota Vikings at 1 p.m. at MetLife Stadium in the first on-field action of the John Harbaugh era. Yes, it’s a preseason game and we likely won’t see much of the Giants’ stars, or the teams’ new schemes. But it’s still real, live football.
This is also our first real opportunity to see the 2026 Giants in action. We’ll get to see how the arrival of a new
coaching staff, off-season free agent additions, and draft additions have impacted the team. We’ll also get to see position battles play out on the field, with the opportunity for players to make real moves in live action.
So then, we have a simple question for you this week: Which unit are you looking forward to watching the most?
- Do you want to see the offense? We might only see the vanilla foundations of the offensive scheme, but how do the Giants meld the input of former offensive coordinators Matt Nagy, Brian Callahan, Greg Roman, and Tim Kelly? Do you want to see how the offensive line is coming together? What the revamped receiving corps looks like? Isaiah Likely has been Jaxson Dart’s top target, so how do the Giants deploy him and Theo Johnson? Or maybe see the new-look running game?
- Do you want to see the defense? As with the offense, we’ll likely only see the fundamentals of the defense, but how does it differ from Shane Bowen’s scheme, or Wink Martindale’s for that matter? We’ve heard plenty about how disruptive the Giants’ hyper-athletic edge defenders and linebackers have been. Do you want to see the defensive line is being rebuilt without Dexter Lawrence? And what about the secondary? Is Deonte Banks for real? And how are Ar’Darius Washington, Tyler Nubin, Jason Pinnock, and Jevon Holland used?
- Or are you a real sicko who wants to watch the special teams? The Giants’ kicking competition has been one of the focal points of camp given that there’s three whole games worth of experience between Ben Sauls and Dominic Zvada. Not to mention, the Giants also have an undrafted free agent long snapper, which likely gives them the youngest and least-experienced battery in the NFL… Except for All-Pro and Pro Bowl punter Jordan Stout. There’s also the question of which players actually play on the Giants’ return and coverage units, and how they perform. That will be pivotal for how the bottom third of the roster is decided.
