A report from Mauro Munno of JuventusNews24 reveals that San Diego Wave is nearing a deal with Juventus to sign Italian National Team forward Barbara Bonansea on loan.
The 35-year-old forward has been with the Serie A Women club since 2017, and holds the all-time appearance record for the club .
The signing would make sense for the Wave in need of clinical goal-scorer. The club has relied heavily on the play of its wingers for their goal production. San Diego signed a high-value striker in Brazilian
star Ludmilla ahead of the 2026 season, but she has only scored one goal in 2026.
Dudinha had been an MVP candidate for her play in the left wing position until she injured her ACL during the Summer international break. Trinity Byars has taken up the scoring mantle on the left wing connecting with the Wave attack and scoring many difficult goals.
The potential acquisition also leaves questions about the availability of the Wave’s high-impact player signing Catarina Macario. The U.S. star has been absent since December 10, 2025, in an appearance with Chelsea. She is listed with a heel injury and has not been seen training with the Wave since she signed in March.
The Wave currently hold the third spot in the NWSL standings and play their next match on Sunday, September 6, against the Seattle Reign.
