Canelo Alvarez will make his long-awaited return to the boxing ring this Saturday (Oct. 31, 2026) for the first time since losing to Terence Crawford over a year ago to face off against WBC’s interim super middleweight champion, Christian Mbilli, inside Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on DAZN PPV.
Despite the loss to “Bud” — which cost him the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight titles — Alvarez is still one of the few boxers in the sport that commands a massive payday
every time he steps into the ring.
And this weekend will be no different.
According to Boxing Scene, Canelo is expected to bank a whopping $47 million flat base fee for the title fight. Of course, that does not include his cut of the pay-per-view (PPV) and sponsorship deals. As for Mbilli, the champion could expect a flat base check of around $9 million. While a massive pay check for Canelo awaits, it’s half the amount he received for his mega-fight against the aforementioned Terence Crawford last year.
Aside from the challenge of facing and potentially defeating a legend of the sport, a massive payday is the reason why Canelo — who has an estimated net worth of $300 million — has long been one of the most called-out fighters in the game ala Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. It’s something that’s not lost on Alvarez, who infamously says “you want a payday”when he gets called out.
Can you blame them?
