Former Barcelona striker Pau Víctor adressed his departure from the club this summer and spoke highly of his former coach Hansi Flick.
Víctor, who moved from Barça to Portuguese side Braga on a €15 million deal last month, spoke to Gerard Romero of Jijantes and was full of praise for Flick and the way he was treated by the coach, even though the 23-year-old struggled to get regular playing time.
“When I wasn’t playing, the manager always worried a lot about me, about my mental level and making sure
that the intensity didn’t drop in training. He understood that it was difficult and there were several players in my situation.
“I have no complaints and when I left I sent him a message of thanks and he told me that he wished me the best and that he would be paying attention to Braga. He was like a father to us.”
The forward also explained the reason for his departure as he searched for regular football despite making a very difficult decision to leave a club such as Barça.
“I felt very loved at Barcelona and I noted it in my farewell post on Instagram. Now every time I score I receive so many messages of joy from the fans and it’s very nice. [The decision to leave] weighed heavily on me, but I think [it] was the right one: I needed to play and grow and after speaking with the manager and my entourage, this was the [best] idea.
“It wasn’t an easy decision because you never know if you’re going to come back. I had to talk it over with my agent, my partner, my parents… but with Rashford’s arrival, the level of everyone up front, and after talking with Flick, I think we made the best decision for everyone.”
