Winning fixes a lot of things in college football. It also makes recruiting pitches considerably easier.
Nebraska heads into its Homecoming matchup with Maryland with momentum building on the field, and Matt Rhule now has another opportunity to turn that progress into something tangible on the recruiting trail.
The Maryland weekend has developed into another important recruiting event in Lincoln, with a mixture of Nebraska’s 2027 commitments and highly regarded 2028 targets expected on campus. Five
2027 commits are currently listed as visitors, including five-star quarterback Trae Taylor, Jordan Agbanoma, Corey Hadley, Bryce Williams and Jailen Hill.
But this weekend isn’t simply about Nebraska’s coaches selling the program.
The players committed to Nebraska are doing plenty of selling themselves.
Trae Taylor Continues to Be Nebraska’s Best Peer Recruiter
Five-star quarterback Trae Taylor has become a familiar face on the Nebraska sideline during recruiting weekends.
That’s significant.
Taylor committed to Nebraska all the way back in May 2025 and has since become one of the most active peer recruiters in the Huskers’ 2027 class. Rivals have credited him with helping Nebraska’s pursuit of several prominent recruits, including Tory Pittman III and Khalil Taylor.
Now Nebraska is getting to the point where Taylor isn’t recruiting alone.
Jordan Agbanoma, Corey Hadley, Bryce Williams and Jailen Hill are also scheduled to be back in Lincoln for Maryland. That gives Nebraska’s younger visitors an opportunity to spend time not only with coaches but with players who have already bought into what Rhule is building.
Peer recruiting can be particularly powerful.
Coaches are supposed to tell recruits that Nebraska is the right place for them. Hearing that same message from a five-star quarterback who had plenty of options himself carries a different weight.
And Taylor has something else to sell now: results.
Nebraska can point to what is happening on Saturdays and show recruits that the program is moving in the right direction. That makes the job of Taylor and the rest of the 2027 class much easier.
Malachi Lee Is Coming Back — Already
Perhaps the most encouraging name on the 2028 visitor list is four-star wide receiver Malachi Lee.
Lee was only in Lincoln for the North Dakota game. Now the 6-foot-2, 185-pound Virginia receiver is scheduled to come straight back for Maryland. Nebraska’s current visit tracker lists Lee among a group of 12 prospects from the 2028 class expected for Saturday.
That doesn’t guarantee anything about his eventual recruitment, but it is certainly a positive development.
Recruits have limited weekends available during football season, particularly players attracting interest from programs across the country. Lee choosing to use another one on Nebraska so soon after his previous trip gives Rhule and his staff another chance to strengthen that relationship.
There is also an obvious connection Nebraska can sell.
Taylor is one of the premier quarterbacks in the 2027 class. Lee is one of the better receivers in 2028.
If Nebraska wants to start attracting elite skill-position talent consistently, having a quarterback like Taylor already committed is a pretty useful recruiting tool.
Lee saw Nebraska’s offense during his previous trip. Now he’s coming back.
Nebraska needs to make that return visit count.
Nebraska Holds Off Georgia for Corey Hadley
Sometimes recruiting momentum isn’t about adding another commitment.
It’s about keeping the ones you already have.
Four-star safety Corey Hadley has provided Nebraska with an important win before the Maryland game even kicks off.
Georgia made a serious push for the Sandy Creek standout. Hadley visited Athens earlier in September and was considering returning to Georgia last weekend before changing those plans following conversations with his family.
He has now shut down his recruitment and reaffirmed his commitment to Nebraska.
That’s no small victory.
Hadley plays his high school football in Georgia’s backyard, and keeping a highly regarded defensive back committed when the Bulldogs become involved is another indication of the relationships Nebraska has built within this class.
Now Hadley is expected back in Lincoln for Maryland alongside several of his future teammates.
There is another peer-recruiting element here too.
Hadley had an opportunity to reconsider his options and ultimately decided Nebraska was still where he wanted to be. He can now spend the weekend around younger recruits as someone who has gone through that process and chosen to stick with the Huskers.
Geep Wade Isn’t Slowing Down
Then there is the offensive line.
Nebraska’s 2027 offensive-line recruiting has been one of the major success stories of this cycle, and Geep Wade deserves plenty of credit.
Wade arrived with a reputation as both a developer and recruiter, and the early recruiting returns have been impressive. Nebraska has assembled a deep 2027 offensive-line group featuring prospects such as Jordan Agbanoma, Timi Aliu, Barrett Kitrell and Matt Erickson. Wade and Lonnie Teasley have helped Nebraska put together what has been described as one of the program’s strongest modern offensive-line recruiting classes.
But Wade isn’t stopping with 2027.
One of the biggest prospects scheduled to be in Lincoln this weekend is Grayson Williams, a 2028 interior offensive lineman from Southeast Raleigh in North Carolina.
And “big” is appropriate in every sense.
Williams is listed at 6-foot-3, 315 pounds and currently sits at No. 49 nationally and No. 3 among interior offensive linemen in the Rivals Industry Ranking.
That’s exactly the type of recruit Nebraska needs to continue getting on campus.
For years, Nebraska has talked about rebuilding the offensive line to compete in the Big Ten. Wade appears to be giving that effort some genuine recruiting traction.
Nebraska Public Media’s recent recruiting discussion specifically highlighted Wade’s work and noted that several four-star-calibre 2028 offensive linemen are expected on campus this weekend.
Landing Williams eventually would be another significant step, but simply having players of his calibre making trips to Lincoln demonstrates how Nebraska’s offensive-line recruiting board is changing.
The challenge will eventually move from recruiting these players to developing them.
For now, however, Wade is doing his part by getting talented big men interested in Nebraska.
Winning Gives Nebraska Something New to Sell
Rhule has always been able to sell a vision.
He can point toward his rebuilds at Temple and Baylor. He can sell Nebraska’s facilities, fan base, history and the opportunity to bring a traditional power back to national relevance.
But eventually recruits want to see evidence.
Nebraska’s improved performances this season give the staff something more concrete to put in front of prospects.
That’s particularly important with a 2028 group beginning to take shape. Grayson Williams is a national Top-50 prospect. Malachi Lee is a blue-chip receiver making another trip to Lincoln almost immediately after his previous visit. Nebraska’s 2027 class is simultaneously sending some of its most important members back to campus to help recruit them.
That is how momentum can start feeding on itself.
Win football games. Get elite recruits into Memorial Stadium. Let them experience the atmosphere. Put committed players such as Trae Taylor around them. Then convince a few of those visitors to come back again.
Lee is already doing exactly that.
Nebraska has spent much of the Rhule era asking recruits to believe in where the program is going.
If the Huskers continue winning, the pitch becomes much simpler.
They can start showing them.
