The Arizona Wildcats didn’t have anyone on the preseason All-Big 12 team for women’s basketball. Graduate student and starting point guard Lani Cornfield showed the league enough to be named honorable mention after the season, though.
Cornfield finished second in the Big 12 in assists per game with 6.9. That ranks sixth in the country. Her production didn’t drop much in conference play, either. She was good for 6.2 assists per game against Big 12 competition. That is second in the country for players
against their own leagues.
She was also a top 50 player when in assist-to-turnover ratio. She was good for 1.94 assist per turnover for the season, which came in at No. 50 in Division I. That dropped to 1.64 in league play, but that was still good for seventh in the nation.
Cornfield also made a huge impact on the defensive end. Her 2.6 steals per game over the course of the entire season rank 48th. The 2.5 steals per game she had during league play rank second among Division I players when they match up against their own conferences.
Cornfield also carried a bigger part of the scoring load once leading scorer Micky Perdue was lost for the season four games into Big 12 play. She scored 14.4 points per game both overall and in league play. That put her in the top 225 overall and at No. 17 among players matched up in their own leagues.
Cornfield shot 44.5 percent from the field for the season but only hit 19 percent of her 3-point shots. She was good for 81.9 percent of her free throws. She had an effective field goal percentage of 42.6 percent overall and 40 percent against Big 12 foes.
