Rumblers, we asked, and you answered. With the Buffalo Bills’ recently revealing their alternate uniforms to great debate, we wanted to know what some of the team’s biggest fans had to say about the franchise’s current uniform offerings. Specifically, which current Bills uniform do you like best?
We’re not here to solve any debate because, well, when it comes to uniforms in professional sports conversation will never end. People can look past most companies’ uniform decisions without so much as an eyebrow
lift, at least after a first glance. Not when it comes to one’s favorite team — the threads you’re most likely to pay handsomely for and wear in public.
The results were a bit surprising, and may reveal a lot about the generational makeup of Rumblings readers. With that little spoiler shared, can you guess which uniforms won our poll?
Let’s dive in…
In a paradigm shift of sorts, we’ll start at the bottom and work our way to the top. Why? That’s were I believe the biggest surprise waits. How do you feel about the NFL | Nike Rivals uniform? Well, if these results are accurate, no one likes them. No one as in ZERO percent of the vote went to those uniforms.
It’s fascinating, but perhaps the main reason is due to superstitions. See, the team is 0-1 in those threads (hardly a fair sample size, BTW). Yet, even quarterback Josh Allen was a bit harsh on them in claiming they haven’t won in them — while defending the new alternate uniforms.
Despite the dislike, fans would do well to embrace them since the NFL has teams wearing those uniforms for at least three consecutive seasons once released. It makes sense from a rivalry standpoint with each team hosting three division rivals every season. That leaves the Bills left to face the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets in Rivals wear. Would you wager they have a great shot to go 2-1 in them against the AFC East?
It’s impossible to beat zero percent, though Buffalo’s Color Rush (red combos, all versions), uniforms came close with just 2% of the vote. It’s another surprising result, considering the Bills haven’t lost a game in those uniforms since the 2019 season. Overall, Buffalo is 7-2 in their Color Rush hues. Last season saw the team modify that look, going with red jerseys and white pants. It was a sharp presentation, but had many people thinking “Patriots colors” from the moment they saw the combo. The other reason this specific result is so surprising has to do with the next uniforms in our discussion.
Here they are, the brand-new Nickel City alternates with just 6% of the vote. Why is this surprising? Simply because it beat out the Rivals and Color Rush combination. I don’t know about you, but it sure seems like a lot of fans have purchased those Rivals and Color Rush jerseys in recent seasons. Will even more folks buy-in and wear the Nickel City jerseys in 2026 and beyond?
Look, the gray/grey base color is a big departure for the Bills most folks know. But it is a color that’s been part of the franchise’s brand since Day 1. I’ve written at length about my desire to see the team properly pay homage to the Bills’ first uniforms (those borrowed from the Detroit Lions), and these offer the closest thing yet. That said, they’re still very much nowhere near those first uniforms, and there’s a complete left turn in the form of a blue helmet bathed in a logo that departs massively away from the bison.
All that we get on the alternate helmet is a horn and the streak. Interestingly, the team had told us there actually is an eye in the horn’s form, but I still have to force myself to see the horn as a horn, with an eye socket just beyond and below the bottom “tip.” Who among us even sees that horn as a horn, truthfully? Come on, you know you see only a goofy looking eyeball. They’re not fooling anyone.
So, overall, those three uniform options received just a combined 8% of the total vote. That’s… not great.
Here’s where the decisions get a bit muddled. My personal favorite unis in all forms, the Bills’ standing bison helmet/throwbacks, come in third place with 26% of the vote. I will always love a well-executed classic look, and these are among the NFL’s best tribute threads. They pay tribute to two very important eras of Bills football, both their AFL Championship years and those first few seasons as the newest members of the reformulated NFL.
Those who dislike the standing bison look tend to say they look a bit boring. That’s understandable with a logo that’s completely red. However, their actual AFL tribute forms of these uniforms are the ones I’d choose for them to wear every game.
Next we get to the standard uniforms. They land in second place with 32% of the vote. Enough people weighed in saying that these uniforms can’t be beat, and it’s tough to find a better standard uniform in the NFL. It’s an updated look that manages to combine a lot of what made the ‘90s uniforms great by combining the jersey and pants colors with the same type of helmet and logo Buffalo used from the late ‘70s through the early ‘80s. If you didn’t know it yet, the reason they switched from a white to red helmet was due to the rest of the AFC East having white helmets, and quarterback Joe Ferguson sometimes finding it difficult to pick out targets in traffic.
Speaking of ‘90s uniforms, Rumblers LOVE them! Well, at least 34% of voters in this poll say that uniform combo is the best among the Bills’ current inventory. In truth, that uniform is different from the standard only due to the red helmet. But it works as a tribute, even if the helmet is the only change. Bills Mafia loves the red helmet. If you’re of a certain generation (aka the Bills Country era) you understand well how important they are to the team’s history — but how they’re also synonymous with four incredibly heartbreaking final games.
It’s clear that One Bills Drive understands their fans want more of that look, and they’re set to bring the helmets back in the 2026 NFL season. That’s right, the red helmets are expected to return for a Christmas Day road game against the Denver Broncos.
Due to several factors, we’re willing to bet Bills Mafia will have that game circled on their calendars!
