WWE left the door wide open for Nick Aldis to have another match after his impressive showing against Gunther on Night One of SummerSlam this past Saturday (Aug. 1). His boss Triple H said “never say never” when asked about another match for SmackDown’s reinstated General Manager immediately after the show.
While critiquing his match with Sam Roberts on WWE Now’s SummerSlam Saturday recap, the 39-year-old Aldis admitted he was exhausted/out of breath (aka “blown up”) early in the match — understandable
given he only had a month to train for it after finding out in late June while in Saudi Arabia for Night of Champions:
“I was so blown. Everyone talks about this, but nothing replicates working in the ring and it really is true. I’ve been doing the most intense, hard conditioning workouts for the last couple weeks. Genuinely never ever trained that hard my whole life and still four minutes in I’m like ‘Oh my god.’”
But when asked about getting back in the ring, he said:
“I don’t know. I came in with no expectations and I come out with none. If it’s there, it’s there.
”Sure, in the right circumstances, yeah.”
And right on cue, Aldis became one of The Miz’s go to talking points while doing interviews around SummerSlam this past week. Asked about his storyline with Danhausen by Denise Salcedo on the SummerSlam “red carpet”, the A-Lister blamed his boss on the blue brand:
“I was made into a vegetable. I’ve been made into a zombie* for the past four months, and I haven’t been on TV in a month because of him. I blame Danhausen. I blame Nick Aldis. Those are the two people I blame.
”Nick Aldis for allowing a person to electrocute his superstars. I mean, honestly, he’s so busy with Gunther that he forgot that his job was to be general manager and protect his talent.”
Salcedo went to wrap that up by confirming Miz had “no kind words for Danhausen”, and he quickly and emphatically added “or Nick Aldis”.
And he spoke to Contralona there as well, and went even harder at his boss. First along the same lines (and with a strong point, I must say):
“You would think I would be upset with Danhausen, but I’m more upset with my General Manager Nick Aldis… if you get electrocuted at your job — General Manager is the person that needs to deal with that, correct? So instead of worrying about being a Superstar and getting your spot at SummerSlam, why not be the General Manager and help your talent who’s been here for 20 years NOT get electrocuted and turned into a vegetable?“
But then he admitted he was happy for Aldis, especially for the moment with wife Mickie James and their son in the ring afterwards. But he couldn’t resist complaining about the treatment the National Treasure got at SummerSlam while he was on the sidelines:
“I love it when people get a moment, when people get to share it with their family. I just wish that the person that is my General Mnager wasn’t the person doing that, because I think he can focus on something else rather than getting his moment.
“By the way, Oasis? Really? Really? We’re getting Oasis now? I mean, what’s next? I mean, what, we’re going to get Queen and like all the Def Leppard, and Guns N’ Roses? I mean, my — I mean, is Limp Bizkit, I mean what are we doing? [Torres reminds him Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst was on the official theme of SummerSlam] Yeah, but I mean, my God, Oasis?
”I mean, my God, I’ll come out to Wonderwall. I’ll come out to Champagne Supernova.”
Miz’s role usually involves rotating around guest stars and special attractions-types, and it would seem that the wrestling version of Nick Aldis will be that. It would also be a way to get part-timer Aldis a win before they serve him up to the next returning legend or rising star.
