Ohio State is now 6-0 following an impressive victory over Illinois. The Buckeyes went on the road for just the second time this season, and left Illinois with a decisive 34-16 win.

State football team will now begin to prepare for this weekend’s bout versus Wisconsin and former Ohio State coach and player, Luke Fickell.
The Buckeyes continued their winning streak into Monday, as the program got a big recruiting win to start the week. Ohio State has been increasing its activity level in recruiting prospects already committed elsewhere, and are starting to reap the rewards, earning their first flip of the 2026 recruiting class.
2026 three-star offensive tackle and now former NC State commit Landry Brede (Mentor, OH / Mentor) has flipped his commitment from the Wolfpack to the Buckeyes.
The three-star prospect and Ohio native is the No. 1111 national prospect in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and is the No. 91 offensive tackle. He is also the No. 48 recruit out of Ohio.
Brede provides excellent depth for Ohio State’s offensive line haul in this recruiting cycle. Ohio State already holds commitments from Sam Greer, Maxwell Riley, Aaron Thomas, and Tucker Smith. Of that group, Greer and Riley are also from Ohio, giving the Buckeyes three in-state commitments along the offensive front.
Brede and Ohio State have long had a mutual interest in each other, which is not surprising given he grew up in Ohio. However, despite this mutual interest, Ohio State did not offer Brede and he went on with his recruitment and chose NC State over his other finalists North Carolina and Pitt.
His commitment with the Wolfpack held strong until Ohio State finally presented him with an official scholarship offer on Sept. 6. Immediately, Brede schedule an in-game visit for Sept. 13, when the Buckeyes played host to Ohio. The on-field dominance by Ohio State and the electric atmosphere in Ohio Stadium for the night game seemed to go a long way, and Brede became one of the stronger flip-targets for Ohio State.
The Ohio native made a return visit for the Minnesota game two weeks later, and two weeks after that, he has now flipped his commitment and pledged his services to Ohio State. Brede becomes 21st member of Ohio State’s 2026 recruiting class, which is likely to finish as a top 10 class when it is all said and done.
Quick Hits
Ohio State may not be finished adding to its 2026 class following Brede’s commitment. The Buckeyes have some other flip-targets they are still targeting, and on Monday they moved one step closer in securing another flip.
2026 four-star cornerback and Florida State commit Jay Timmons (Gibsonia, PA / Pine-Richland) will soon be taking an official visit with Ohio State. Ohio State offered Timmons back in September, and the visit will be his first to Columbus since the offer.
Timmons was originally committed to Indiana, but then flipped his commitment to Florida State this past summer. However, getting him to flip a second time could be a daunting task, as he is the son of former Florida State star, Lawrence Timmons.
Jay Timmons is the No. 162 national recruit in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and is the No. 18 CB. He is also the No. 4 recruit out of Pennsylvania.
Ohio State dished out another scholarship offer on Monday to 2027 cornerback Bryce Woods (Atlanta, GA / Woodward Academy). Woods does not yet hold a star ranking from 247Sports, but if his offer list is any indication, that will likely change come the next recruit rankings update.
Woods now holds 30 scholarship offers from the likes of Arkansas, Auburn, Duke, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Missouri, North Carolina, Pitt, SMU, Tennessee, USF and many others.
