Despite the lack of quality depth in the Liverpool senior squad there’s been some significant moves for promising youth over the past couple of seasons including Ifeanyi Ndukwe, Lucca Brughmans, Djylian N’Guessan, Samuel Martinez, Dara Jikiemi, Will Wright and the Farkas brothers Patrik and Erik. Some of these players are already established beyond hopeful prospect, especially Ndukwe who showed us all the quality he has during the pre-season and then there’s 18 year-old goalkeeper Brughmans who has stayed
at former club Genk for the 26/27 season.
Argentinian midfielder Tomas Aranda turned 19 in May and has made one appearance for the senior Argentina national team and is considered a very exciting player who has the ability to play across the attacking line as well creating plays from deeper. From the reels this writer has watched Aranda is not a center forward type but also not a static number 10 and his strength (close to Victor Munoz’s) suits his ability to drop deeper into the midfield and either run with the ball or make quick counter-attacking passes.
As with all young prospects and future squad building being considered it’s worth at least doubling up on positions as Liverpool have done in regards the center-back situation with Ndukwe, Jikiemi, Giovanni Leoni and Mor Talla Ndiaye because any player considered a prospect may not work out. With that said the obvious double up in the attacking midfield position is 17 year-old Colombian Samuel Martinez who is behind Aranda in terms of experience yet considered a player with a very bright future.
The fee that would be required to get a deal done is reported to be around 9 million and a move is rumored to be penciled in for January in hopes to avoid any transfer competition from other clubs. It could all just be noise to fill the vast silence that no Premier league games brings but if it’s true then this writer is not opposed to more hopefuls being signed as the prices for football players keeps rising to unsustainable levels.
Along with such possible signings pretty much every Reds supporter and pundit continue to feel a little frustrated that no dominating defensive midfielder has been even rumored about with the closest looking target being Lamine Camara of Monaco. That’s an on-going debate which won’t go away any time soon and there is young Trey Nyoni who does very well as a defensively capable midfielder but for now we could be welcoming a gritty young Argentinian into the attacking end of Liverpool.
