With a number of key Liverpool stars absent from pre-season following the World Cup and a squad still needing a few key signings to avoid a situation where new head coach Andoni Iraola is set up for failure before the first ball has been kicked, the Reds headed to the United States to begin their pre-season tour with a number of youth and fringe players rounding out the roster.
Amongst those were right back Calvin Ramsay and left back Luke Chambers, both now 22 years old and with few signals from
the club they might be under consideration for larger roles at the club in the coming season. And as The Athletic sees it, the best either can likely achieve is to do well enough in limited pre-season minutes to earn a permanent transfer before the summer window closes.
This is news that likely won’t surprise anyone, with Ramsay having made a total of four senior appearances at the club over four seasons after arriving as a highly rated talent from Aberdeen but struggling with injuries that have so far derailed his career. Chambers has also made just four senior appearances over the past four years, with all coming in the 2023-24 season.
It’s suggested that Ramsay would ideally like to return to Scotland, with a number of Premiership clubs at least considering him as a target, while Chambers could earn a move to Championship side Queens Park Rangers. The Reds paid an eyebrow-raising £4.2M fee to sign Ramsay from Aberdeen four years ago while Chambers has been in the Liverpool system from the age of six.
