Indiana men’s basketball beat Milwaukee, the favorite to win the Horizon League this season, 101-70 on Wednesday night at Assembly Hall in Bloomington.
As you can see from the score, it was yet another
strong offensive showing for Darian DeVries’ Hoosiers, who scored 98 on Alabama A&M and 100 on Marquette. After several years of post-oriented, 3-point eschewing offenses, this era is a more than welcome change for Hoosier fans.
Here’s five things we ;earned about the Hoosiers tonight:
- Tayton Conerway looked masterful on offense, scoring 21 points and dishing out five assists in 26 minutes. He played as hard as he could in each of those minutes, including diving on the court twice in the second half when the Hoosiers were up by over 20.
- Lamar Wilkerson as usual through three games in the cream and crimson, looked fantastic. It’s been a slow realization that bad shots from deep don’t really exist for him, the ball just keeps going through the hoop from ranges that ordinarily make you cringe.
- Indiana’s rebounding actually held up pretty well. You’d normally expect most high-major teams to outdo their mid-major competition on the boards, but Indiana doesn’t really have that kind of size. A 35-31 margin proved to be more than good enough.
- The Hoosiers’ offense was just about what you’ve come to expect, to a degree, under Darian DeVries. Indiana is built to score points and the Hoosiers do just that, more than enough in most cases.
- Turnovers were again a good part of Indiana’s box score. The Hoosiers turned the ball over just seven times in the game, keeping it under double digits again, with 23 assists. For an offense that keeps the ball moving, that’s a really good number.
