The roster shuffling is in full swing now. After the Falcons surprised everyone by signing veteran quarterback Andy Dalton, they’re shaking up their EDGE group with the addition of Charles Snowden.
The team has signed him off the Washington Commanders practice squad and cut Bralen Trice, per The Athletic’s Josh Kendall.
This isn’t an
earth-shattering move, but the 28-year-old Snowden seems like a quality addition. Listed at 6’6” and 250 pounds, Snowden struggled to make an impact early in his career after arriving in the NFL as an undrafted free agent, but found a home with the Raiders in 2024 and 2025, appearing in 31 games with 18 starts and picking up 4.5 sacks combined over those two years. While those aren’t exactly eye-popping numbers, Snowden was a reliable tackler who was useful in coverage in a pinch and delivered solid pressure along with solid run defense; Trice had had his moments as a pass rusher in 2026 but was struggling against the run and with his tackling.
The Falcons likely view this as a direct upgrade on Trice for the moment, while Trice seems fairly likely to land back on Atlanta’s practice squad. Given how thin the Falcons EDGE group has looked, it’s always a good idea to add more capable players to the mix. James Pearce Jr. is a couple of weeks away from returning and the Falcons have had to lean heavily on Cameron Thomas and Samson Ebukam thanks to injuries to Za’Darius Smith and Yasir Abdullah and a reluctance to commit to major snaps for Jared Ivey and Trice. Snowden should be able to give this team quality snaps on all three downs once he gets up to speed.
Give Snowden a warm welcome, and we’ll see if he figures into the team’s plans for Sunday against the 49ers.
