The Spurs’ first home game of the season was kind of a roller coaster, where the Spurs failed to play hard to start the game then ran the Nets out of the gym in the second quarter. The second half had a similar rhythm, where the Nets wore down the sluggish
Spurs for the third quarter with superior energy and red-hot shooting from Cam Thomas and the other Brooklyn scorers, retaking the lead in the fourth giving them a real shot of winning the game. It was anyone’s game with under two minutes left, but the Nets had all the momentum and the Spurs were on the ropes. The Spurs were prodded out of their slumber with some stellar play from Dylan Harper and Keldon Johnson, and Victor Wembanyama also doing Victor stuff as the Spurs scored the final 10 points and won 118-107 in a game that was a lot closer than the final score.
Tonight, they play the Raptors, who at 1-1 are the first opponent of the Spurs that have won a game. They are probably a middle of the pack team in the Eastern Conference playoff race, but it will be nice to see some former Spurs tonight, notably Jakob Poeltl and Sandro Mamukelashvili. Sandro is always fun to watch, but if he gets extended playing time, the score probably isn’t that close. Hopefully that will happen because the Spurs have a big lead late in the game, but you’ll have to watch to find out.
Game Prediction:
Sandro Mamukelashvili will hit a ridiculous buzzer beater as the clock runs that will have no impact on the outcome of the game.
