The United States Women’s National Team take the field this afternoon in San Jose for the first of 3 matches against Japan during this April international window. The USWNT have had a strong start to 2026, where they haven’t conceded a goal, and now they go up against a Japan team that is ranked fifth in the world.
Japan just won the Women’s Asian Cup, but they also let their coach go after that and will be operating with an interim coach. Still, they are a dangerous team who can beat anyone and have
the players to contend for another Women’s World Cup title. This will be a strong test for the USWNT, who want to continue to perform well against top teams to prepare themselves for the Concacaf W Championship this fall.
Head coach Emma Hayes will likely begin with a strong lineup, dividing the team into two rosters essentially with the first one getting 60+ minutes before subs are made, barring any knocks or cards. In that, each player will get a chance to show what they can do against a top 5 team as they try to get the win today.
