The New York Giants will have one less thing to worry about when they take the field against the Los Angeles Rams.
Ian Rapoport is reporting that reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett is having knee surgery and will be placed on the short term IR.
Not only will Garrett miss the Week 2 game against the Giants, he’ll also miss games against Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles, and Denver Broncos.
This is an undeniable break for the Giants, who were 9.5-point underdogs prior to this news.

While the Giants have a strong tackle duo in Andrew Thomas and Jermaine Eluemunor, they would still need to account for a healthy Garrett and roll help his way. That would make life more difficult for the Giants other blockers against a talented Rams line. While Byron Young is an athletic and dangerous rusher, he isn’t Garrett.
On the flip side, the season couldn’t have started worse for the Rams. They’re re looking to rebound after being outclassed by the Sam Francisco 49ers in Australia. Now they’ll have to wait until Week 6 at the earliest to see Garrett and Aaron Donald on the field together.
Of course, the Giants still have to get past their game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.
