One of the key hot button topics for fans of the Seattle Seahawks all offseason was the offensive line, and how the team would go about looking to improve upon the performance of the group in 2025 after a disastrous 2024.
Many had hopes and dreams of a big splash in free agency, while others thought the team would deploy its ample cap space and utilize draft capital to improve the group.
Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic was one of the first to posit that the team would likely steer clear of free
agency, and that is exactly what ended up happening, in spite of some attempted flirting with Will Fries.
After eschewing big spending in free agency, John Schneider and Mike Macdonald did use their top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on guard Grey Zabel, and what he’s shown on the field so far has been enough to impress most fans. However, the Seahawks did not make any big moves at center or right guard, opting instead to let the players who were in those spots battle it out through training camp and the offseason.
Now, however, with the Week 1 game against the San Francisco 49ers just two weeks away, the Seahawks have yet to formally announce their starting offensive line. Field Gulls took the liberty of interpreting the snap counts from the Preseason Week 2 win over the Kansas City Chiefs to declare Anthony Bradford the starter at right guard, which left just the center position up in the air.
The fact that the Seahawks played backups for the entirety of the preseason finale against the Green Bay Packers, however, foiled any attempts to use a similar methodology to discern whether Jalen Sundell or Olu Oluwatimi held the lead in that battle.
With that said, though, it appears that the Seattle coaching staff may have made a decision, at least according to Seahawks beat writer Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune.
As noted in the post, if Bell is correct then the starting offensive line for the Seahawks for 2025 will be:
- LT Charles Cross
- LG Grey Zabel
- C Jalen Sundell
- RG Anthony Bradford
- RT Abe Lucas
And now it’s on to the 49ers in Week 1, when fans will learn if Sundell is indeed the starter.
