With less than two weeks left to go before the summer transfer window slams shut, Liverpool remain hard at work trying to bring in a centre half and centre forward, knowing that to not do so would put their aspirations of mounting a Premier League title defence in 2025-26 at serious risk.
At centre half, Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi is the target. At centre forward, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak is the target. In both cases, though, their current clubs would need to source suitable replacements, leaving
the Reds and frustrated Liverpool fans waiting for the dominoes to start to fall.
It appears, though, that Palace at least may be closing in on a potential replacement for Guéhi, as today The Independent have put forward Rennes 20-year-old French centre half Jeremy Jacquet as the preferred option to take Guéhi’s place. The young French defender, it’s said, would cost £35M.
It’s a fee that lines up with the £35M long been proposed as a compromise price for Guéhi, who Palace rejected a £70M bid for in January and now want £45M for with a year left on his contract. Liverpool have long signalled they would prefer to pay less than £30M given his contract status.
As for Palace and rumoured target Jacquet, the 20-year-old has previously been linked with Arsenal, but were he to sign for last season’s runners-up it would be as a clear depth and development option whereas Palace would provide the youngster with a much clearer path to regular playing time.
