Better to be safe than sorry …
Following UFC Vegas 117 last night (Sat., May 16, 2026) inside Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, promotion officials confirmed to MMAmania.com that two fighters were transported to a local “Sin City” hospital for precautionary reasons after sustaining damage in their respective bouts.
The fighters were Melquizael Costa, Daniel Santos, and Shauna Bannon.
Costa (26-8) was transported for precautionary CT scans of his head, face, and chest following his unanimous decision loss
to Arnold Allen in the UFC Vegas 117 main event — the first main event appearance of his UFC career.
The defeat snapped Costa’s impressive six-fight win streak, a run that included victories over Morgan Charriere (watch highlights), Julian Erosa, and the distinction of becoming the first fighter to stop Dan Ige (watch highlights).
Despite the setback, the Brazilian still sits at 7-3 inside the Octagon.
Meanwhile, Santos (13-3) was taken to the hospital for precautionary scans of his chest, pelvis, and abdomen following his brutal “Fight of the Night” loss to Doo-Ho Choi, where he was stopped in the second round by a vicious body shot.
The defeat snapped Santos’ four-fight winning streak, which featured victories over Joo Sang Yoo, Jeong Yeong Lee, and John Castaneda.
“Willycat” now falls to 4-2 under the UFC banner.
As for Bannon (7-3), the Irish Strawweight was transported for precautionary CT scans of her head and face after suffering a third-round submission loss to Nicolle Caliari, which opened the card.
The defeat marks the first two-fight losing streak of Bannon’s professional career, with both losses coming via submission. She now sits at 2-3 in the UFC.
At this time, the results of the fighters’ scans have not been publicly disclosed.
It is normal for UFC to transport fighters to the hospital for precautionary reasons, especially if the fighters are involved in three-round battles that are full of damage or after suffering nasty knockouts.
