Packers fans who love the NFL Draft are in an interesting predicament this offseason. On the one hand, the Packers have no first round pick this year (or next) thanks to the Micah Parsons trade. That makes the top end of the draft significantly less interesting.
But on the other hand, the Packers’ lack of a first round pick makes the other rounds all the more interesting and important, which is arguably the domain of the real hardcore draft enthusiasts. Besides the fact that under Brian Gutekunst
the Packers’ first round picks haven’t been all that interesting, the real roster-building work takes place on days two and three of the NFL Draft — and that’s the only place the Packers will be working this year. Their late picks have never been more important.
There’s the paradox, such as it is. If you love the NFL Draft — all seven rounds — this is your moment. You’ll never have a better reason to dig deeply into the later rounds of the draft. If you love the first 32 picks, well, I guess we’ll have to see you in 2028. But don’t worry, we’ll welcome you back with open arms. All rounds of the draft are important, it’s just that the Packers won’t be visiting one of them for some time.
