The main event for TNA Lockdown (Aug. 23, 2026) had an unexpected result, and it goes down as a rare feat in the record books. After the Nemeths defeated the Hardys to win the TNA World Tag Team Championship, Nemeth joins Kurt Angle as the only men to hold the tag titles and the TNA World Championship at the same time. Angle accomplished that history in 2007. We’ll see how long Nemeth’s double reign lasts. Option C was cashed in to close the PPV (full results).
At Lockdown, every match was inside
a steel cage. The Hardys entered as tag team champions. I’ll be generous and say very few people thought the Nemeths would win this match. Personally, I doubt anyone did. I guess the lesson is to never doubt Nic Nemeth.
The finish unfolded after Nic and Jeff Hardy threw punches standing on the top rope. They lost balance to feel the pain of their cojones colliding onto the top rope. That cleared space for Matt Hardy to hit a Twist of Fate on Ryan Nemeth. Matt followed for a flying elbow drop through the table.
As Matt picked up Ryan from the mat, Nic saw his opening to execute the Danger Zone finisher for the win. Fans appeared to be stunned at what happened. I think part of the reason was that it was an ugly Danger Zone, and the crowd didn’t believe that would actually be the finish.
The champagne celebration was interrupted by Leon Slater, who won the X-Division Championship earlier in the evening. Slater cashed in Option C for Bound For Glory on October 11. The assumption is that Nic will still be world champion by that date.
