With a well-made* documentary on his career coming out next month, Raven has stepped up his interview and appearance game of late. One topic we’ve seen come up in more than one of those is the health of the long-time wrestler who rose to fame in ECW and WCW during the 1990s.
Raven (real name Scott Levy) gave Ariel Helwani a list of his recent surgeries during an appearance on Helwani’s show
today (Oct. 8):“In ’22 I had both knees replaced. ’23 I had my shoulder replaced. ’24 I had spinal stenosis
flare up. So I’ve been just rehabbing, rehab, rehab, rehab”.
He also gave the host a heads up about something he also mentioned during a live edition of Matt Cardona & Brian Myers’ Major Wrestling Figure Podcast last month — the tremors he deals with as a result of early-onset Parkinson’s disease:
“I got early on-set Parkinson’s. So if you see me tremor, that’s why. It just when I get anxious, the tremor gets worse, or when I’m really tired.”
He told Cardona, Myers and their crowd that the tremors from the neurological condition are why he now hates holding microphones and speaking to large audiences. Raven said he finds it “annoying” because he used to “thrive in front of people.”
Asked by Helwani if he thinks his health issues are a result of his career, Raven replied:
“Of course. Absolutely. Look, you got to pay the piper. Sometimes, you know, for all the drugs and alcohol and chair shots I took to the head… you gotta pay for the damage at some point”
The 61-year-old said he has regrets, but he’s happy with who he is and wants his “golden years to be golden”.
