Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany is not going to overlook a resurgent FC Augsburg side, which has been performing very well under manager Manuel Baum—even if the home side is a little banged up this weekend.
Kompany has not forgotten FC Augsburg’s stunning victory over Bayern Munich last season.
“It’s a very important game. Our only Bundesliga loss last season came against Augsburg. It’s still a derby, and it’s an away game. Augsburg are known for their compact formation and their ability to
be very dangerous on the ball. They have a lot of individual quality. They’ve started the season with momentum. It’s a derby, the fans are looking forward to it, and so are we,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
While FC Augsburg is not operating at full capacity, Bayern Munich is relatively healthy, with the exception of Jamal Musiala, who suffered a minor muscle tear in his right thigh.
“Jamal is out. Otherwise everyone else returned fit from the national teams,” said Kompany. “I can relate to [Musiala’s] story of setbacks; I’ve experienced that many times in my career as well. Coming back from setbacks is a strength. I hope he can enjoy playing football again over the coming years. But when you make a strong comeback, it’s something that stays with you for the rest of your life. The whole team is delighted whenever he scores a goal. He’ll continue to do so, without a doubt.”
With a Champions League tilt against Viking on Tuesday, Kompany will have some lineup decisions to make, but this could be a very standard look for Bayern Munich — barring Musiala, of course.
