Nebraska 3-Maryland 0: 25-13, 25-20, 25-15
After their 3-0 sweep of Penn State in State College, the Huskers head to University Park to play a Maryland team who just won their first B1G match in 16 conference matches. The Terrapins had some momentum going into this one because of that.
DBK decided to give Bergen Reilly and Virginia Adriano some rest tonight as they did not play. Both were suited up just in case. Campbell Flynn and Ryan Hunter got the start tonight because of this.
Tonights match was
also in their basketball arena even though their normal matches are played in their volleyball gym that looks like it should be home to a high school team. This just shows, again, that Nebraska fans travel very very well.
Tonights match was another one of those super quick ones that only lasted about an hour and a half that ended in a Nebraska sweep of course. Players like Keri Leimbach, Skyler Pierce, Kenna Cogill, and Gabby DiVita got to play because of this.
Nebraska sped through the 1st set winning by 12 points and hitting .385%, which was the highest of the match. Maryland brought a little more competition in the 2nd when they led up until the Huskers took the 15-14 lead to go into commercial break. After that, it was all Huskers.
DBK started to play bench players going into the 3rd for them to get some court time before they go into some hard matches against ranked teams like Indiana and Wisconsin. They did hit at the lowest clip of the match, for the team, hitting only .132%.
The Huskers didn’t have the best offensive match, but they did have Flynn setting for the entire match which is not their normal so it could’ve thrown them off just a little. The Terrapins hit .118% tonight with their best hitter being Sydney Bryant, hitting at a .250% clip.
Andi Jackson was the Huskers top player tonight with 12 kills, hitting .455%. Teraya Sigler followed her with 8 kills, hitting .429%. Ryan Hunter had 6 kills and Harper Murray both had 5 while Manaia Ogbechie and Skyler Pierce followed them with 3.
Jackson and Campbell Flynn were the Huskers top blockers tonight as Jackson had 5 blocks while Flynn followed her with 4. Olivia Mauch led the team with 10 digs.
The serving was another big part of their win tonight, totaling 11 aces. Andi Jackson had 6 of those aces while Teraya Sigler had 2 and so did Laney Choboy. Gabby DiVita had the other at the end of the 3rd.
Nebraska will finish out their road trip on Thursday when they play Indiana. They could potentially travel home before the match, but there is a chance that they could just stay on the road until then. The match will begin at 5:30pm CST and will be televised on B1G Network.
