Noche UFC 2026 took a big hit yesterday (Wed. Aug 19, 2026) when one of the main event fighters
was forced to withdraw from the card with an injury.Yair Rodriguez hasn’t had two fights in one year since 2023, and then 2019 before that. The man just doesn’t fight very often, and now it looks like he may not fight in 2026 at all after an undisclosed medical issue has forced him off the upcoming Mexican Independence Day event on September 12th.
Now “El Pantera” has released a statement on his withdrawal.
“I got injured,” Rodriguez wrote in Spanish on his Instagram. “I tried to continue my training, but ultimately it wasn’t responsible to compete in this condition. I wanted this fight, and I know many of you did too. Now my job is to fully recover and come back ready to compete at the level you expect of me, and that I expect of myself.”
“Thank you to everyone who continues to support me,” he concluded. “See you soon.”
Rodriguez’s last fight was a unanimous decision win over Patricio Pitbull in April 2025 that snapped a two fight losing streak (including a title loss to Alexander Volkanovski in 2023). He’s in a strange spot: UFC media rankings have him unranked due to inactivity while the UFC Meta rankings have him at No. 5.
Based on the Meta rankings, a win over Jean Silva at Noche UFC could have launched Yair Rodriguez right back into title contention. Now he’ll have to wait for another opportunity to fight someone so high up in the rankings, and hopefully he can make it to the fight uninjured.
