How much would you pay for the same title held by legends of days gone by?
Conrad Thompson acquired the Intercontinental championship title Ricky Steamboat won from Macho Man Randy Savage in one of the most highly acclaimed matches in WWE history at WrestleMania 3 back in 2020, having traded Pat Patterson’s original Intercontinental title for it.
Today, he’s a happy man because the belt sold at auction for an unheard of amount.
The red letter WWF Intercontinental title, famously held by Tito Santana, Savage, Steamboat, and finally by Honky Tonk Man, sold for $716,750 at Heritage Auctions’ Fall Sports Catalog auction just this weekend. According to the Observer, it becomes the most anyone has ever paid for a championship title, easily beating out Hulk Hogan’s WWF world championship from WrestleMania 2.
It’s not, however, the record for most expensive piece of pro wrestling memorabilia.
Either way, it’s a lot of money for a title that hasn’t been used on television dating back to the 1980s.
Right?!?
