Newcastle United is reportedly weighing up a move for one of Inter Milan’s youngest and best midfielders as we enter the final month of the summer transfer window.
Croatia international Petar Sucic, 22, has been linked to Newcastle as the club continues his search for midfield reinforcements with Sandro Tonali gone and Bruno perhaps on his way to Arsenal.
According to Corriere dello Sport, per CalcioMercato, Newcastle has joined Leeds United in expressing interest in the Inter midfielder, with the Magpies
prepared to submit an offer worth between €35 million and €40 million.
Inter’s stance, however, remains firm, and Sucic’s market value, €45 million on Transfermarkt, is still a bit higher than Newcastle’s possible offer for the player.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Serie A club has informed interested clubs that Sucic is not for sale, although that position could change if offers approach the club’s valuation of the center midfielder.
Making things difficult for Newcastle is the fact that Sucic only joined Inter from Dinamo Zagreb last summer, immediately turning into an important member of Cristian Chivu’s squad, making 54 appearances in all competitions while scoring four goals and providing five assists.
While no official bid has been reported, Corriere dello Sport’s report suggests Newcastle is prepared to test Inter’s resolve, at the very least. Whether the Italian champions soften their position may ultimately depend on whether the Magpies are willing to meet the reported €40 million valuation for one of Croatia’s brightest young midfielders, just one year after Inter landed him for about €15 million.
