Hey friends, things have been busy at work this week, and some folks are out on vacation. With this season graciously coming to a close, we’ve missed a GDT here or recap there. Sincere apologies, and thanks
for the continued readership!
On to the game – things started with the bad omen of a rain delay at Camden Yards, and once Ryan Pepiot did take the mound, everything felt like an eternity. Pepiot found himself surrendering RBI’s (R’s BI?) on a Gunnar Henderson sac fly to the warning track, plating the walked Jackson Holliday, and a Tyler O’Neill ground out that plated Jordan Westburg, who’d doubled.
Pepiot only made it three innings against the last place Orioles, in likely his last opportunity to pitch in 2025.
Originally acquired by the Rays in the Tyler Glasnow trade to be a facsimile of the star pitcher, Pepiot had some inning count concerns this season, having been placed on the injured list twice in 2024. He was placed on the 15-day injured list in May 2024 due to a lower left leg contusion after being hit by a 107.5 mph comebacker, and again in July for a right knee infection caused by a spider bite, which required a 60-hour hospital stay and a month on the sidelines.
This year Pepiot was healthy but limited and by September tired. He missed a start this month due to general fatigue but was not placed on the IL for that. Despite the inning count setbacks, he finished the season with 31 starts on 167.2 IP with a 3.86 ERA.
Pepiot was tagged for three runs over his three innings, and after Kelly cruised through the fourth inning, Ian Seymour took the game the rest of the way, allowing three more runs and raising his ERA to 2.85 on the season.
With this 81st loss of 2025, the Rays have now been prevented from having a winning record for the 2025 season.
