Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we are talking about Mizzou Football.
On Tuesday afternoon, Mizzou Athletics released a press release stating that Mizzou’s home opener, originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 5, will now be played on Thursday, Sept. 3 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The change was expected, as the Tigers have played each of their last five home openers. They haven’t lost a home opener since the COVID season in 2020.
“Opening the season on a Thursday night in CoMo is becoming a great tradition for our program,” head coach Eli Drinkwitz said.
The Tigers host seven opponents including APB, Troy, Florida, Texas, Texas A&M, Kentucky and Oklahoma.
We have more discussion on football and basketball, diving into prospects, visits and PFF grades in the Rock M+ forums.

There’s still more work to do, but the main consensus is that a 2-2 record the rest of the way would clinch an at-large berth for Missouri.
With the win against Tennessee, Mizzou is in great shape.
T.O. Barrett responded with one of his finest performances in a Mizzou uniform. He put up 28 points on 12-of-17 shooting against Tennessee, setting a new career high in scoring.
Barrett had an answer for all of his haters on Tuesday. He was a lot of fun to watch.
Small sample sizes, thy name is the 2026 Missouri Quarterback Room. Nick Evers is the old guy backup who hasn’t done much but has learned the most, Matt Zollers is the toddler in the room who’s just figuring out how to run, and Austin Simmons is the clear talent that has yet to start and finish a season. But Zollers and Simmons have the ADOT that we’re looking for, and Simmons has the Big Time Throw percentage that’s even better than noted NFL quarterback Drew Lock. Also, Simmons’ ANY/A is 8.9. I’d be happy with that.
There’s plenty of upside with Mizzou’s offense headed into the season. It’s just a matter if the performance can match the hype.
Over at Rock M+ we have more Mizzou football discussion and basketball discussion with the offseason picking up for football, and SEC play in full motion for basketball.
