Bayern Munich found themselves under attack from a relentless Wolfsburg side fighting tooth and nail to preserve their status as a Bundesliga club. Surprisingly, Bayern managed to score against the run of play thanks to a Michael Olise screamer.
The match stats after full time are damning (via X account @iMiaSanMia):
Wolfsburg had more shots than the Bavarians, though the latter had more on target. The xG for the home team is a whopping 3.07 (possibly higher), while Bayern only had 1.85. Both teams
missed all their big chances (Wolfsburg had five, while Bayern had two). Bayern initially had no control of the match but managed to get it back, but the home side were not letting them off easy.
This is indicative of an inherent issue within Vincent Kompany’s system. Even as far back as November, the team was slumping and churning out unfavorable performances. With the upcoming World Cup break, Kompany has enough time to find faults in his system and iron out anything that may hinder the Rekordmeister.
