What is the story about?

The college football season is just around the corner, with Week 0 games already done and played and Week 1 games ready to kick everything into high gear this Saturday.
All 16 teams in the Southeastern Conference are starting at the same record of 0-0, and have equal opportunities to make and win the SEC Championship. Texas and Georgia took the top two spots last year, with the Bulldogs defeating the Longhorns in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but all season long, there was potential for other contenders
to make the top two and cause chaos. We’ll see what happens this year.
Let’s take a look at the SEC before Week 1 play starts:
SEC Standings Week 1

Notes:
- 11 of the 16 teams are ranked in the preseason AP poll, and four are in the top 10.
- Mississippi State infamously was the only SEC team to go 0-8 and lose to everybody last year. Now they have an even harder schedule as they try to stop the drought: Every game is against a ranked team except for Missouri and Arkansas, but they face both of them on the road. Ouch.
- LSU has lost five straight season openers and decided to open this season at Clemson. If they drop another one, they have no one to blame but themselves.
- Missouri has it made this season. Their hardest road game is at…Oklahoma. Their hardest overall game is hosting Alabama. That’s right—no Texas and no Georgia. Pair that with a manageable non-con and they might be able to follow up last year’s 10-win season with another one.
- Kentucky and Ole Miss play the first SEC game of the season in Week 2, with the Rebels coming to Kroger Field in the only league game before Week 3. The Wildcats have a challenging schedule and will need to be scrappy to stay competitive in these standings.
