The end for Goretzka? (Bild via @iMiaSanMia)
It could be the end of an era with Bayern Munich — Leon Goretzka could be in his final months with the club per a report from Bild.
Goretzka’s price tag seems to be one factor in the potential decision, but it does also feel like Bayern Munich is looking to go younger at the position as well:
Leon Goretzka’s time at FC Bayern could be drawing to a close. The midfielder’s contract expires in the summer – there are currently no talks taking place, and an extension is considered unlikely. Bayern are already
looking for a successor, with their focus mainly on young talents. Zé Lucas (17/🇧🇷), Nathan De Cat (17/🇧🇪) and Kennet Eichhorn (16/🇩🇪) are the three hottest candidates on the list.
In recent years — and in particular this season — Goretzka has found himself in the crosshairs of fans.
Simply put, it has not been an easy road for him this season.
After a solid September and October, Goretzka’s season hit a a tailspin in November. Coincidentally, Bayern Munich’s form dropped as well.
Whatever the case, Goretzka will likely not want to leave the club. However, he just might not have a choice.
Wolves to land Füllkrug? (Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg)
Niclas Füllkrug is looking to leave West Ham, but might have already lost a suitor. Eintracht Frankfurt is reportedly out of the race, leaving Wolfsburg as the primary club seeking to bring in the striker:
🚨🛑 Eintracht Frankfurt are no longer working on a winter move for Niclas #Füllkrug.
Other Bundesliga sides remain interested including Wolfsburg, as previously revealed.
Eberl talks through Wirtz decision from last summer (11FREUNDE via @iMiaSanMia)
Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl recently talked through the summer saga involving the pursuit of Florian Wirtz — and why things turned out the way they did:
If you and Christoph Freund do the groundwork for transfers before presenting them to the supervisory board for approval, how do you explain Uli Hoeneß’s active negotiations with Florian Wirtz’s father about a move to FC Bayern?
Eberl: “With Florian Wirtz, everyone immediately agreed that we wanted to bring him to FC Bayern. In a case like that, it’s clear that everyone at the club would exert their influence and throw everything into convincing a player who, hopefully, will join Jamal Musiala in ensuring Germany wins titles again in the next ten years.”
Was there a maximum amount you were willing to pay for the Wirtz package?
Eberl: “Of course, we evaluated how far we could go. We knew we could handle his salary, but we weren’t entirely sure what Bayer Leverkusen would demand if FC Bayern asked and, as expected, another top club entered the race. Therefore, we agreed that a special fund would be set aside for the Wirtz transfer because he justifies this enormous price.”
Salah prepping for Saudi move? (ESPN)
Mo Salah could be looking at leaving Liverpool in favor of a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia:
Clubs in Saudi Arabia are still interested in Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, according to talkSPORT. The 33-year-old, who was left out of the starting XI in Sunday’s 2-0 win West Ham United, remains “firmly on the radar” of Al Hilal, while Al Qadsiah have also enquired regarding a move for him. They could explore an opportunity to get a deal over the line next summer when Salah, who previously turned down a £500 million move to the Middle East, will still have one year left on his contract at Anfield. Meanwhile, sources told ESPN on Tuesday that talks between Real Madrid and winger Vinícius Júnior are expected to run into 2026, which could encourage the Saudi Pro League to test the waters for the 26-year-old as they line up their next marquee signings.
Freund thrilled with Díaz so far (Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg via @iMiaSanMia)
When asked to rate former Liverpool winger Luis Díaz, Bayern Munich’s sporting director Christoph Freund could barely contain his excitement.
“A very good rating. He’s a great character, very hard working. He already got many goals and assists. He’s a great player and does the team a lot of good. We’re very happy with him,” said Freund.
Díaz has been a terrific acquisition for Bayern Munich. A steady contributor and a constant headache for opponents, he’s quickly proven to be an ideal fit in Vincent Kompany’s attack.
Robben confident in Bayern (FCBayern.com)
Bayern Munich legend Arjen Robben likes what he sees from Bayern Munich these days.
“If we as FC Bayern are playing well – and that’s the case at the moment — we can beat any opponent. Bayern are among the favorites to get to the Champions League final,” said Robben, who played in three finals for the Munich side (2010, 2012 & 2013). “But the final is still a long way off, of course.”
Neuer says Kompany extension was well-deserved (@iMiaSanMia)
Manuel Neuer think Vincent Kompany’s recent contract extension in Bavaria was the right move.
“I just think it’s the logical step. I think he’s doing a great job with his team. It’s fun to play in this team,” Neuer stated.
