Liverpool have been lightly linked with Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo in the past, but the past week has seen an uptick in chatter surrounding the 25-year-old London-born Ghanian international. The
player has said he remains committed to The Cherries, but that’s never stopped a good transfer rumour.
Now, adding to the mix is news from The Athletic’s David Ornstein of a conditional £65M release clause that applies to the January transfer window—but that has to be triggered before an unspecified set date in order to ensure Bournemouth have time to source a suitable replacement. There is also a clause that applies to next summer at a slightly lower fee.
Not entirely surprisingly, perhaps, this has led to another uptick in transfer chatter. It’s not only Liverpool who are being talked about in connection with the winger. Manchester United and Tottenham are also being linked by various sources, which could lead to an intriguing transfer battle either now or next summer.
Over the past summer and at the start of the season, it’s hard to imagine The Reds not being clear favourites amongst those three clubs, but the season has gone rather poorly to date for Arne Slot’s side while United and Spurs have over-performed slightly relative to expectations. All three are currently level on points after eleven Premier League rounds.
One would expect Liverpool to hold the edge right now based on recent success, but if one of the sides separates themselves over the coming months and finishes top four while the others fall short it could certainly be that side that lands Semenyo if he remains committed through January and a move happens in summer.
