The defending Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks have returned from their offseason break, with veterans having reported for training camp Friday.
In the Mike Macdonald era, reporting to training camp has meant a laundry list of players landing on the nonfootball injury list to open training camp each year. In 2024 Anthony Bradford, Easton Gibbs, D.J. James, Nehemiah Pritchett and Dee Williams all landed on NFI at the start of Macdonald’s first training camp, while in 2025 it was Rylie Mills, Zy
Alexanders, Tyrone Broden, Montorie Foster, D’Eryk Jackson and Isas Waxter.
This training camp has been much different. Following rookies reporting earlier in July, the Seahawks placed rookie Deven Eastern on the PUP list, but no rookies landed on the NFI list. Then, once injured players reported, Nick Emmanwori, Kenny McIntosh and Tyrone Broden landed on the PUP list before Zach Charbonnet finished off the list of players landing on either the PUP or NFI lists.
The difference between the PUP list and the NFI list is that players who find themselves on the PUP list suffered an injury either during a game the prior season or during offseason workouts. In contrast, those who wind up on the NFI list either suffered an injury in college were injured while training on their own away from the facility, or otherwise failed their physical from some reason other than an injury suffered in a game or practice. In the Macdonald era, the most common reason for a player to wind up on the NFI list is having failed their physical for being unable to complete the vaunted conditioning test Macdonald imported to the VMAC from his time with the Baltimore Ravens.
So, with veterans having reported to training camp on Friday, Saturday was the moment of truth to see which, if any, veteran would be the first member of the roster to fail the conditioning test this year. Now, with the transaction wire for Saturday published by the league, the answer is no one.
Not only did the Seahawks not add any players to the PUP list, there were no players moved to the NFI list, meaning every single member of the roster passed their physical, which means they all passed their conditioning test.
That is a first in the Macdonald era, and shows that players didn’t spend the offseason being lazy and getting fat in spite of having thumped the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX to lay claim to bragging rights as world champions until at least Valentine’s Day next year.
