The first half of the New York Jets game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is in the books, and the Jets are trailing the Buccaneers, 20 – 6.
The game opened with the Jets on offense and they immediately did something stupid. Braelon Allen chose to bring out a kickoff into the endzone and the Jets gave up 6 yards of field position to start the game. The Jets ultimately put together a nice drive, aided by multiple Buccaneers penalties, and Nick Folk kicked a field goal for an early 3 – 0 lead.
The Buccaneers
answered with a field goal of their own to tie the game at 3 – 3 on a drive that saw penalty after penalty called on a makeshift Tampa Bay offensive line.
The first quarter ended with the score still 3 – 3 and the Jets driving into Buccaneers territory. The drive ended with a Nick Folk field goal and a 6 – 3 Jets lead.
The Buccaneers answered with a long drive culminating in a short touchdown pass by Baker Mayfield to Mike Evans, making the score Buccaneers 10, Jets 6 early in the second quarter as neither defense could stop the opposing offense up to this point.
Neither team could get much going on offense for most of the second quarter. With less than three minutes remaining in the half, the Buccaneers got a strip sack on Tyrod Taylor deep in Jets territory. The Buccaneers tacked on a short field goal for a 13 – 6 lead over the Jets with less than two minutes left in the half.
The Buccaneers forced a quick Jets three and out and they got the ball back with around 1:30 left on the clock.
The Jets returned the favor, forcing a three and out, and the Jets got the ball back for one final drive. It did not go well. Tyrod Taylor threw a pick six, giving the Buccaneers a 14 point lead.
