Bayern Munich’s Asia tour provided another reminder of the club’s enormous global appeal, with several of the team’s biggest stars leading the way when it came to shirt sales.
According to Bayern Munich chief marketing & sales officer Rouven Kasper, the most popular shirts during the tour belonged to three very different players: a club legend, one of Bayern Munich’s longtime leaders and one of the team’s most popular attacking stars.
“Manuel Neuer, Jo Kimmich and Luis Díaz. But there’s also a strong
demand for the shirts of young players like Tom Bischof and Aleks Pavlović,” said Kasper (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Neuer’s inclusion should come as little surprise. The legendary goalkeeper remains one of the most recognizable names in world football, and his status as a Bayern Munich icon continues to resonate with supporters around the globe.
Kimmich also remains a major figure for the club internationally. As one of Bayern Munich’s leaders and longest-serving senior players, his popularity reflects the connection he has built with supporters throughout his career.
Then there is Luis Díaz, who is entering his second season with Bayern Munich.
The Colombian winger has already established himself as one of the club’s biggest attacking stars, and his popularity clearly extends well beyond Germany. His shirt being among the best sellers during the Asia tour highlights the international following he brought with him to Bayern Munich and the connection he has continued to build with supporters since joining the club.
Perhaps most interesting, however, is the demand for the shirts of Tom Bischof and Aleksandar Pavlović.
Both players represent the next generation at Bayern Munich, and strong shirt sales for young players are an encouraging sign. Fans are not simply interested in the established superstars. There is also genuine excitement surrounding the club’s emerging talent.
That combination of legendary figures, established stars and young prospects is exactly what Bayern Munich wants to see as it continues building its international brand.
The Asia tour may have been about preseason preparation on the pitch, but the shirt sales provided another indication of just how wide the Bayern Munich fanbase has become.
