Bayern Munich fans know that Manuel Neuer’s time at the club is winding down. Jonas Urbig was signed to be his successor in goal for the Bavarians, but that doesn’t mean Neuer is completely out. His agent was at Säbener Straße to discuss a potential deal (via Bild as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia):
Manuel Neuer’s agent Thomas Kroth was at Bayern’s offices at Säbener Straße today for talks over the goalkeeper’s future. Neuer has now clearly indicated that he wants to continue next season. Therefore,
Kroth has come to Munich to begin concrete negotiations with Bayern Financial details still need to be clarified. With an estimated annual salary of around €20million, Neuer is one of Bayern’s highest earners. Given the planned reduction in his playing time next time in favour of Jonas Urbig, a salary cut would normally be expected.
However, Neuer’s importance as a leader and his enormous contributions to the club argue in favor of keeping his salary unchanged. It is now up to Neuer’s agent, Kroth, and Bayern bosses to find a solution regarding his salary.
Neuer has also apparently agreed to the club’s plan with him for next season:
- He remains #1
- He gives up more games for Jonas Urbig and continues to mentor him to become his successor (both goalkeepers are equally happy with that).
If an agreement regarding his salary is reached, then expect to see him sign da ting (read: sign the contract).
BFW Commentary
Neuer’s leadership and serving as a mentor to Jonas Urbig are the only two reasons to keep him on at the club. After what went down in Paris, Neuer is done at the highest level. He’s given so much to the club that it would be a shame for him if he were to leave on a not high note.
Like the Arsenal fans at the end of Arsène Wenger era said: Thanks for the memories, but it’s time to say goodbye.
