A new report from Dutch media suggests that Micky van de Ven is putting contract talks with Tottenham Hotspur on hold while he plays for the Netherlands at the World Cup, opening the door for two clubs — Barcelona and Liverpool — to try and secure his services this summer.
Barça’s hunt for a center-back has been a hot topic for several months, and after a deal for Alessandro Bastoni of Inter Milan couldn’t materialize the Blaugrana have moved on to other targets. Van de Ven’s links are nothing new,
but with Tottenham signing two high-level center-backs and the fresh news regarding Micky’s contract talks with Spurs stalling, it does appear he could be available at the right price this summer.
Van de Ven’s biggest asset is his pace, and his combination of speed, physicality and aerial prowess certainly makes him a strong candidate to fill the left center-back spot in Hansi Flick’s high line system.
