The Denver Broncos’ 2025 season was a magical one that saw them win 14 games, be the number one seed in the AFC, win the AFC West, win a thriller in overtime against the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round, and get one game away from the Super Bowl. That success was in large part due to the Broncos’ second-year quarterback, Bo Nix.
Nix led the Broncos to multiple 4th-quarter comebacks, including the historic 33-point comeback victory vs. the New York Giants. At one point, the Broncos trailed the Giants 26-8
with 10 minutes left in the game, and many fans, including me, waved the white flag. The Broncos and Nix did not, and went on to win the game in what ended up being one of their many signature wins that season.
He would go on to lead the Broncos to comeback wins vs. the reigning Super Bowl Champion Eagles on the road, at home vs. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, on the road again vs. the Texans and their top-ranked defense, and again in the Divisional Round of the playoffs vs. Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. Nix was the king of the fourth-quarter comeback.
Speaking of that Divisional Round game, Bo Nix went toe-to-toe with Josh Allen in that game and not only outplayed him, but also beat him. Nix would play probably the best game of his career and threw for 279 yards, 3 touchdowns, 29 yards rushing, and a game-winning drive in overtime.
This was a signature win over one of the league’s best quarterbacks and a victory that would put Nix and the Broncos just one game away from the Super Bowl, but it wasn’t meant to be.
Soon after the game, while we were all celebrating this huge and exciting victory, Broncos head coach Sean Payton would come out and announce to the world that Bo Nix suffered a broken ankle during the final few plays of the game.
It was a gut punch.
All the excitement turned into disbelief. The Broncos were on a magical run, and Nix was supposed to lead them back to a Super Bowl, but it simply wasn’t meant to be. The following week, the Broncos would lose to the New England Patriots, and the Broncos’ season would end in heartbreaking fashion.
Nix would undergo ankle surgery, and the Broncos would begin moving forward, attempting to build a Super Bowl contender for the 2026 season. Their big move was a blockbuster trade for explosive playmaking wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, who figures to make life easier for Bo Nix. This trade reignited the hype in Broncos Country, and the Super Bowl talk was back on!
Then, out of the blue, we learned Nix would undergo yet another surgery on his ankle. It was called a follow-up surgery, and his timeline went from being ready for OTAs to being ready for training camp. Due to not knowing all the facts, this raised the anxiety of Broncos Country, but those would soon go away as Nix would return to the practice field for the Broncos’ mandatory minicamp. Now, Nix is set to be 100% for the start of training camp and looks to lead the Broncos back to the playoffs, to another one seed and AFC title, and finally back to the Super Bowl and bring that Lombardi Trophy back to Denver.

Bo Nix’s 2026 outlook with the Denver Broncos
It’s simple. First goal? Win the AFC West and get the top seed in the AFC once again. After that, it’s Super Bowl or bust in Mile High, and it will be up to Bo Nix to lead them there.
All eyes will be on Nix early in camp to see how his ankle is doing. All signs point to him being healthy and good to go for the season, and he told reporters that after his second surgery to remove bone spurs in his ankle, the doctors told him his ankle is as good as new.
“Well it was hard because I wanted to be full speed so fast, but that’s just unfortunately not how post-surgery goes. [I’ve] been there, had an ankle fracture in college, so knew sort of what the rehab was. Obviously it was a different bone, so you have to let those different bones heal differently. When I got back going, I felt really good, just a little bit of soreness. Just wanted to go ahead and get it out of the way for good. Now they tell me—I didn’t get in there and look at it—but the doctors told me that the ankle looks good as new. We’re right back to normal. So once the progression of the rehab comes and goes after you wait your due diligence and wait patiently and get through it, it should feel great.”
As for his goals this upcoming season, Nix set the bar high. He told reporters that, like all quarterbacks in the NFL, he wants the good stats and all that, but he wants to win a Super Bowl and be an MVP-caliber player.
“Yes, I think it’s just like each and every year. I want to have a great completion percentage and put the ball in play. I want to have very few turnovers and mental errors. At the end of the day, if you asked that question to every quarterback, they want to win the Super Bowl and an MVP. That’s what is going to be my goal each and every year. Now some of those don’t have to do with me, it’s voted by someone else. But at the same time, you have to give them a reason not to choose you. Super Bowl is a little bit cleaner because it’s actually something you can do for yourself.”
Nix will have a chance to do both of those things this upcoming season. First, the addition of Jaylen Waddle will add a big-time explosive element to this offense that has been lacking for a few seasons, and his presence should open up things for everyone else. Also, first-time playcaller Davis Webb will bring new ideas to the table and give the Broncos offense a new look with, hopefully, smoother execution this season. If both of those changes move the needle for the Broncos, Nix will be in the MVP conversation, and the team will be in the Super Bowl conversation.
With all that said, it won’t be easy, and Nix will need to play better and more consistently than he has previously in his career. He has had slow starts in recent years, and with the Broncos having a tough start to the season (on paper at least), the team cannot afford another slow start or down performances early in the year. We need the Nix we saw late in the year vs. the Green Bay Packers and the Buffalo Bills starting Week 1. If we do, Nix will vault himself into the top 5 quarterback conversation and into the MVP conversation.
The Broncos have the talent, offensive firepower, defense, and coaching staff to make this happen, and I am excited to see it play out during the season.
Final Thoughts
Expectations are high. The Broncos are legit Super Bowl contenders, and the pressure will be on Bo Nix to lead them there. Fair or not, all eyes will be on him, and the naysayers that still exist will be ready to pounce if they have a slow start. The Broncos have a tough start to the year, starting with a road game in Arrowhead against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, followed by a home games vs. the Jaguars and Rams. A fast start there by Nix and the Broncos will quiet the naysayers and have Broncos Country buzzing.
We need to see the Nix we saw vs. the Bills, but maybe even better. Now he will have Jaylen Waddle, hopefully a better run game, and Davis Webb calling plays. The ceiling is very high for Nix and this Broncos offense, and I cannot wait to see it all come together.
A big win on the road in Week 1 against Patrick Mahomes and the rival Kansas City Chiefs would be a great way to start their season and kick off a Super Bowl run for Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos.
