Deep breaths, everyone. Deep breaths.
Mizzou missed an opportunity to put a marquee win on their resume, dropping Saturday’s Top 15 matchup against Alabama 27-24. But if you’re looking for a silver lining,
it might be that the game was truly a missed opportunity. The Tigers had multiple opportunities to beat the Crimson Tide in a game where they were never truly out of it, despite their many mistakes. There’s no such thing as a moral victory and all that, but the fact that Mizzou played ‘Bama to the whistle suggests they’re still amongst the upper echelon of teams in the country and should be able to hang with — or beat, ideally — anyone and everyone left on their schedule.
The trick now? Actually doing it. The Tigers travel to The Plains this weekend for their first road trip of the season against an Auburn team that’s scuffling for consistency. They’re talented as hell, though, and aren’t going to just roll over to let Mizzou get back on track toward their first CFP bid.
All that being said, a win at Auburn would probably right much of the “wrong” that Mizzou did to its resume this past weekend, and they’ll no doubt be motivated to show the committee that they should still be in the conversation.
So strap in for a road game, folks. We know how much “fun” they can be with Eli Drinkwitz teams.
