The New Orleans Saints appear to have a clear vision for Martin Emerson’s role heading into the 2026 season based on what we saw during week one of OTAs.
The former Cleveland Brown looks to be working primarily at outside cornerback for Brandon Staley’s defense, although his main focus remains recovering from the Achilles injury that cut short his 2025 campaign before it even started.
The 25-year-old has built a reputation as a boundary corner capable of matching up against bigger receivers on the
outside. However, Emerson’s recovery remains the biggest storyline.
Achilles injuries can be challenging for defensive backs, particularly those who rely on quick changes of direction and recovery speed in coverage. As a result, New Orleans is expected to be cautious with Emerson’s workload throughout offseason activities and training camp.
When healthy, however, Emerson has the potential to become a key piece of the Saints’ secondary. If his recovery continues progressing in the right direction, the Saints could have an important contributor ready to line up on the outside when the regular season begins.
