Since our last update, four more Syracuse Orange players have announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal. Quarterback Luke Carney and defensive backs Jalil Martin, Kaylib Singleton and Ta’Ron
Haile are the latest to depart the Orange.
Carney’s going to draw the most fan attention, but Singleton was the 2nd highest rated recruit in the 2025 class. He chose the Orange over offers from Florida, Michigan and Texas A&M so he’s likely to draw lots of attention. In eight games this fall, Singleton had 16 tackles. with a high of 6 against Miami. I’d guess that Singleton ends up at one of the P4 Florida schools in January.
Carney was a 3-star recruit out of Texas. He saw limited snaps in four games in his first season, scoring a rushing touchdown against Colgate. He completed 5 of 7 passes for 22 yards and had 10 rushing attempts for 28 yards. The handling of Carney’s playing time was a point of contention for the final two months of the season, but he preserved his redshirt and is probably more appealing as a four year option for other schools.
Martin transferred to Syracuse from Nebraska and spent three seasons with the Orange. He appeared in five games this year and his top Orange moment was an interception in last year’s Holiday Bowl.
Haile came to Syracuse as a wide receiver in 2024, but was moved over to defensive back this fall. He made 5 tackles this season as a reserve. A big time athlete in high school. he had offers from Penn State, Nebraska and Maryland so it’ll be interesting to see if he ends up at one of these schools, or maybe Virginia Tech.
This brings the total number of expected departures to 15 as we wait for the official opening of the portal on January 2nd. Of course as doors close, others open and Syracuse will get a visit from a quarterback early in the new year.
