Texas A&M has already named Jay Bateman’s replacement as a Defensive Coordinator, elevating Assistant Head Coach Lyle Hemphill last week . But Bateman’s departure also meant the Aggies are in need of a new
linebackers coach, and it appears they may have found their solution. According to 247 Sports’ Matt Zenitz, the Ags will hire former Arkansas Defensive Coordinator Travis Williams as their new LB coach.
Williams spent the last three years as the DC in Fayetteville, and two years before that as DC at UCF. Obviously the Razorbacks defensive performance was nothing to write home about, but college football is littered with coaches who didn’t thrive as coordinators who are still very very good position coaches/recruiters. Heck, that might be a great way to describe the outgoing Bateman.
With A&M announcing on Monday that WR Coach Holmon Wiggins will be elevated to Offensive Coordinator to replace the outgoing Collin Klein, it appears that the only remaining open coaching spot (currently) for the Aggies is a QB coach.
