Rutgers baseball fell 10-0 in a run-rule style loss to Michigan in their Big Ten tournament opener yesterday at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.
The Scarlet Knights’ batters had a tough time solving the Wolverines’ pitchers, as they recorded only one hit in 21 at-bats. Michigan, on the other hand, registered 12 hits on 31 at-bats, with three home runs on top of it as well. 6 different Michigan batters registered RBI’s, with three recording more than one.
With the loss, RU drops to the consolation
bracket, where it will face No. 6 Ohio State at 2 p.m. ET today after its loss to Washington.
Michigan’s offense would get going in the first with a single home run before registering three RBI’s in the third and fourth innings. The Wolverines would blast two home runs in the seventh inning, recording three more points before registering three RBI’s to earn their sixth run of the inning and the run rule victory. The
Rutgers game against Ohio State today will be an elimination game, with the loser being eliminated from tournament competition altogether. If Rutgers wins this game and then beats the loser of Michigan-Washington, they will earn the fourth qualifying spot due to the new double-elimination rules established by the Big Ten this season.
