Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies is one of the most dynamic players at his position in the world.
However, after suffering a torn ACL during the 2024/25 season, Davies had a long, tough recovery and then was injured three separate times in the second half of the 2025/26 season. The situation has left Bayern Munich on edge about the Canadian’s participation in the World Cup.
Davies recently took some time to speak about his situation and his drive to ensure he can play in the squad’s opening
game next week.
“Mentally, it was very draining, suffering these injuries. I was going into a hole where I was doubting myself, but I had that time off and I thought about why I’m doing this and how important this is to me,” Davies told Canadian news outlet CP24 (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “The first game is coming up pretty quickly. The thing we talked about, me and the coach and the people that were in (a meeting regarding his fitness), I think we understand how important the first game is. But we understand recovery is always an important thing. If I’m recovering as good as possible, let’s see. If not, then there’s no need to rush. Anything is possible in life. For me, it’s (all) depending on how the recovery is going, how these next few days or this week leading up to the game goes.”
Davies and his Canada mates kick off their World Cup journey on Friday June 12th in at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at 3:00PM EDT.
For obvious reasons, Bayern Munich would likely prefer Davies and Canada take a conservative approach, but the 25-year-old seems intent on being there with his teammates as soon as possible.
