97) Jalen Hurts. Hurts is coming off an up-and-down year and is now at the controls of a brand-new scheme designed by offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. Hurts has found ways to maneuver around obstacles in the past, though. He has a 57-25 record as a starting QB and ranks second to only Josh Allen in total touchdowns (138) since 2022. — Tim McManus. Signature stat: Hurts recorded his fourth straight season with 30-plus combined passing and rushing touchdowns, the fourth-longest active streak behind Allen (six). That included his fewest rushing TDs (eight) since becoming the full-time starter in 2021. 2026 projections: 3,779 passing yards, 24 TDs, 12 INTs; 106 carries, 438 rushing yards, 9 TDs.

As we navigate the aftermath of Howie Roseman’s roster decisions and await the fate of Joshua Were and Uar Bernard, it’s time to turn some attention to the players at the top of the roster with thoughts on the expectations for the likes of Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith, Saquon Barkley, Jalyx Hunt, Jalen Carter and Makai Lemon. Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation joins Bo Wulf for a close look at the season ahead.

“Tremendous confidence in who those guys are as players, what their skill set is. Obviously, they had some setbacks here physically and we looked at that as a staff and a group and maybe can figure out some changes here to get those guys going a little bit sooner from a skill position perspective. But don’t have any doubt about what they’re going to be in the NFL over time. Still believe they’re going to contribute to our 2026 team.” That may end up the case. But Roseman’s 53-man roster construction suggests he went deeper at receiver and tight end than he did a year ago to account for Lemon’s and Stowers’ stunted starts. Moore, as the sixth receiver, could shoulder some of the load on concepts designed for Lemon if he struggles early. And while EJ Jenkins, as the fourth tight end, won’t factor much as a pass catcher, his blocking ability will allow for Dallas Goedert to line up more in the “F” role. Roseman’s actions, ultimately, will demonstrate how he feels about both positions. He’s yet to make a trade during this period — which is uncharacteristic — but he has a week until on-field preparation for the Commanders begins and has other avenues to add players if necessary. But Roseman seems to want to follow his own advice, which is to be patient. And that may apply to the new offensive system as much as it does the youngsters. Coordinator Sean Mannion kept his cards close in camp, joint practices, and the preseason. But the offense was objectively scattershot.
Practice Squad Moves and Roster Talk – Iggles Blitz
The Eagles did add some outside players. OT Kiran Amegadjie was a third round pick of the Bears. He struggled mightily in pass pro, but showed promise as a run blocker. We’ll see if the Eagles can do a better job of developing him than Chicago did. Edge rusher Mason Reiger is a high motor player who is a good fit for the Eagles scheme. RB Jaydon Blue comes over from Dallas.
Eagles GM Howie Roseman on Uar Bernard, lack of trades, more – NBCSP
Risking Bernard and Weru. The Eagles took a gamble this weekend by waiving International Pathway Program players DT Uar Bernard and OLB Joshua Weru. But that gamble paid off because both cleared waivers and have since been signed to the Eagles’ practice squad. “We’re not sitting there and cutting anyone and going, ‘Woohoo, this guy, we’re definitely getting back,’” Roseman said. “You don’t know what other teams are thinking.” During training camp, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio did everything he could to temper expectations for Bernard and Weru. He made it clear both are a long way from contributing — if they ever do. But now Bernard and Weru will have a chance to continue their development from the practice squad. The Eagles once hit it big on an IPP player when they drafted Jordan Mailata in the seventh round back in 2018. But it took Mailata several years to see the field and Roseman on Monday stressed that Mailata was a unique case. “I think that Jordan, with all due respect to Joshua and Uar — I don’t know, whoever’s the youngest person in this room probably could be doing this for 30, 40 years, and nobody’s going to see a Jordan Mailata ever again,” Roseman said. “I mean the person, the player that that guy is, that story, it’s an unbelievable story. He had just a unique combination of size, strength, athleticism and pro experience as an athlete. “I think sometimes we forget Uar has never played organized sports before. It’s a different bar. I think if we’re just judging everyone through the lens of Jordan Mailata, it’s going to be hard to give these guys a fair chance. Still very excited about them, really glad that they did get through. Certainly wasn’t certain about that, but I’m glad they’re back here.”

On Monday afternoon, the NFL served Roseman another reminder of the job that he and his personnel staff have done in assembling the 2026 Philadelphia Eagles. Typically, just four percent of players waived during roster-cutdown weekend around the league are claimed. The Eagles had a league-high four players snatched by other teams – rookie defensive back Kapena Gushiken (Colts), tight end and special teamer Cameron Latu (Patriots), and offensive linemen Myles Hinton (Bengals) and Cameron Williams (Falcons) – at a rate of 15.4 percent, nearly four times the average. “To be fair, we always anticipate that,” Roseman said when he met with reporters on Monday afternoon after the initial announcement of 13 practice squad additions to the team, leaving the Eagles with four open spots. “Certainly, those percentages didn’t apply to our roster over this weekend, unfortunately, but that’s the risk of doing business and don’t feel good about that. Don’t feel good about losing those guys.”
Patriots claim tight end, linebacker off waivers following NFL roster deadline – Pats Pulpit
Cameron Latu, 26, had been waived by the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. The 6-foot-5, 244-pound tight end previously visited Foxborough for joint practices and preseason work earlier in the month. Entering the NFL in the third round of the 2023 draft at pick No. 101 overall out of Alabama, he began his career with the San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns before signing a futures contract in the NFC East in 2025. The former national champion went on to appear in 15 games last season, including a pair of starts. Latu saw 102 snaps on offense to go with 257 snaps on special teams while having a hand in a blocked punt and 11 tackles.
Tanner Hudson cut to make room for Myles Hinton – Cincy Jungle
The Cincinnati Bengals have released tight end Tanner Hudson to make room for new Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Myles Hinton. WLWT’s Charlie Clifford broke the news first on Monday. This is a big surprise, as Hudson was viewed as having a pretty safe roster spot. He was even held out of the preseason finale while other guys like Jack Endries were seemingly fighting for their roster lives.
Falcons 2026 roster: Atlanta claims three players off waivers, waive Zach Harrison and Natrone Brooks – The Falcoholic
Finally, there’s Cameron Williams, who was cut despite being a sixth round pick by the Eagles a year ago. Philadelphia was reportedly not thrilled with his lack of year-over-year development, but now he’s in Bill Callahan’s grasp and the team will hope to unlock his potential as they continue to look to the future at tackle. We’ll see if this means Ethan Onianwa is headed to the practice squad.
Colts claim former Eagles DB, while two ex-Colts players claimed elsewhere – Stampede Blue
Following 53-man roster cuts, the Indianapolis Colts waiver activity has been announced, and the Horseshoe claimed and successfully lander former Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Kapena Gushiken. Meanwhile, ex-Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Colby Wooden was claimed by the New Orleans Saints, while placekicker Blake Grupe was claimed by the New York Jets. Regarding Gushiken, the 5,10”, 189 pound undrafted rookie defensive back out of Ole Miss spent this offseason with the Philadelphia Eagles. He had 5 tackles (4 solo) in the Eagles preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens, then 5 tackles (2 solo) versus the New England Patriots, and then 6 tackles (6 solo) against the Cincinnati Bengals in Philadelphia’s recent preseason finale.
Dallas Cowboys release QB Joe Milton – Blogging The Boys
The move comes as a pretty big surprise given the events of training camp and specifically the preseason. It seemed like Milton was a lock to be Dak Prescott’s primary backup this season, but even if you disagreed with that the idea of him not making the roster at all seemed a bit farfetched. Again, Milton played extremely well over the course of the preseason. He led the NFC in third-down passing across the exhibition period at large. This isn’t anything to really write home about given that it was the preseason, but you get the point that Milton played well in the opportunities that he had. [BLG Note: Former Eagles QB3 Sam Howell now appears to be QB2 in Dallas.]
Commanders designate Trey Amos, Jeremy McNichols to return off injured reserve – Hogs Haven
Amos missed the entire offseason program recovering from a fractured fibula that ended his 2025 season. He dealt with soft-tissue soreness early in training camp, before he was finally cleared to return in mid-August. Amos suffered an ankle sprain in his second practice back and hasn’t returned since. Starting the season on IR will allow him to rehab at a proper pace without taking up a roster spot while doing so. It’s a setback for the Commanders defense, considering he was expected to be their No. 1 cornerback. They’ll make do with a combination of Amik Robertson, Mike Sainristil and Rasul Douglas, among others.
NY Giants will keep WR Jalin Hyatt on their practice squad – Big Blue View
Former third-round pick Jalin Hyatt, cut on Sunday when the team reached the 53-man roster limit, will return to the New York Giants as part of their practice squad. The Giants traded up in the 2023 NFL Draft to select Hyatt after he won the Fred Belitnikoff Award as the nation’s top wide receiver as a member of the Tennessee Volunteers. Hyatt’s time with the Giants has been a disappointment. In three seasons, he has just 36 receptions for 470 yards and no touchdowns. Hyatt has barely played the past two seasons, catching just 13 balls.
