Welcome back! We’ve had 2 roundtables this week discussing Saturday’s rivalry game between the Miami Hurricanes and Florida State Seminoles. Click the links to see those pieces:
With that done, and plenty of things said, it’s time to get down to business and call our shots for Canes vs Gators. Here we go.
Call your shot. How does Canes vs Noles play out, who wins, and what’s the score?
Cam Underwood: I think Miami continues to dominate both lines of scrimmage, runs the ball down FSU’s throat, and makes
enough plays in the passing game to earn victory. I have maintained all year that Miami is the better team here, and nothing I’ve seen has made me change my mind about this. It might take into the 3rd quarter to really see the score start to stretch out a bit, but I’m confident Miami will wear FSU down and pull away for a big rivalry game victory.
Miami 31, FSU 20
Justin Dottavio: Miami wins by 7. I do think this will be a tricky game because it’s a road trip, in Tally, and Thomas Castellanos is a tricky QB to defend. Malzahn’s wing-t will test the OODA Loop of the Miami defenders for the first time this season. ND went right at Miami with some vanilla schemes, as did USF and UF. Norvell and Malzahn will pull out all the stops.
Craig T. Smith: I don’t know how much more my heart can take from games like Notre Dame, but I think this one goes down to the wire again. I think Castellanos and Robinson get theirs, but Miami has an edge over Florida State that I think again shows up late in the fourth quarter – a dominating offensive line. Miami’s 4-minute offense gets it done late and escapes with a win. Miami 31, FSU 27
Mike Schiffman: Miami is the more talented team. Coach Cristobal need to make sure they are also the more hungry team. FSU will put up a really good fight, but if the Canes play to their ability as a team, they should win no matter what: Miami 38, FSU 27.
John Michaels: I thought preseason that this game would be a beat down, but give FSU credit, they are better than anticipated. Miami will look to control the clock and physically beat the hell out of FSU’s lines. Eventually Castellanos will have to stand in the pocket and throw the ball, which plays into the Canes hands. Miami runs for over 180, garners at least 3 sacks, and grinds the Noles into submission. Miami 30 FSU 20
Jake Marcus: Miami has played tight games when they faced Notre Dame – in a game when they were leading by 10 late – and Florida – in a game where they ended up winning by nearly 20. It would be nice to see the Canes, and especially Cristobal, win with some conviction, which would be a welcome shift in narrative from the Miami that has blown games in recent years. Canes have the roster to do it and should, proving they are the sure team to beat in the ACC. Miami 36, FSU 17.
Rob Weaver: I don’t think FSU is better than Notre Dame or even Florida, who has one of the best defenses in the nation (albeit with no offense to pair with it…come to think of it, that describes Texas who should be on upset alert). Even though we’re in Tallahassee not Miami Gardens, the two things that travel well are defenses and a running game, so I’m expecting a similar result as UF – Canes start strong and finish strong to ultimately cover the spread with ease: Miami 31, FSU 17.
Jordan Lopez: I believe that this game comes down to the wire at the very end. I understand that FSU looked bad against Virginia and cost us having a great College Gameday at Tallahassee, but they will be even more dangerous after that loss. That run game of the Seminoles is no joke, and rivalry games are always close. Miami still comes out on top, 30-26.
